We ensure that TC Beirne School of Law students have the best access to career opportunities and education. In addition, we strive to give students the opportunity to meet potential employers in person, with a significant presence on campus of most of Brisbane`s leading law firms, as well as links to more diverse legal and non-legal opportunities. An evening of short presentations from each law firm to explain what the firm is all about, the articling process and its graduate program, followed by a panel discussion that provides tips and tricks for the articling application process. These brief descriptions of companies and tips are the best way to get to know a company and what you need to say in the cover letter before the interview process begins. There is a common problem among law students that you need legal work experience to get a law-oriented job, but to get legal work experience, you need to have a law-oriented job. This is the ultimate Catch-22. The programs are designed to work around this problem. Students placed in BWEP work either for a single lawyer or for chambers and experience many things such as meeting lawyers or clients and visiting a court. The event is primarily for students entering internships, but we encourage all students to consider attending. The seminars take place over semesters one and two with our PLT partners and focus on educating students about the various providers of practical legal education in Australia. A little-known fact for law students when they begin school is that graduation is not the time you become a lawyer. Successful completion of a Practical Legal Education (PITE) course will equip you with the practical skills needed to become a lawyer before being called to the Bar.

A networking event that allows students to have one-on-one conversations with potential employers. The career team invites not only our sponsors, but also a wide range of legal and non-legal professionals to give students a unique chance to enhance their career prospects. In recent years, we have achieved a perfect 2:1 ratio between students and professionals, creating an intimate and successful event for employers and students. The ODPP has the ability to host students in a number of locations including Brisbane, Beenleigh, Cairns, Ipswich, Maroochydore, Rockhampton, Southport, Toowoomba and Townsville. Barristers Work Experience Program (BWEP) & Ashurst Work Experience Program (AWEP)Both programs are designed for students who are not in their first, penultimate or final year, and graduate students who are not in their first year. UQLS Career Space, the careers team, regularly receives career and volunteer opportunities that appear on our “Career Space” Facebook page, and students are encouraged to check regularly for new updates. Live and work in Japan for a year with a job at one of Japan`s largest law firms. This opportunity is for students who are about to graduate from law school. Students who are placed at Ashurst have the opportunity to experience life in a commercial law firm prior to their legal internship.

The Aurora Native Title Internship Program places students in law, anthropology and other social sciences (archaeology, heritage, environmental management, human geography, history and sociology) and graduates of Australian universities in Native Title Representative Bodies (NTRB), Prescribed Bodies Corporate (PBC) and other organisations concerned with policy-making, social justice and human rights. all focused on Aboriginal people. The program provides applicants with career opportunities in Indigenous title and Aboriginal affairs in general, while providing support to underfunded and overburdened organizations. The Director of Public Prosecutions` WEPP offers students the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in criminal law. Students wishing to apply to WEPP must have a genuine interest in criminal law. They must be team players who can work under pressure, manage their time effectively, and be skilled communicators with excellent interpersonal skills.
